Write about a scary or spooky encounter you had.
I don’t get spooked very easily.
I’ve had so many spiritual experiences throughout my life that I could probably write a book about them. Usually my reaction isn’t “Oh my God, a ghost!” 😱 It’s more: Why is this happening? Why are they coming to me? Is there something I’m supposed to understand or help with?
Growing up was harder. I saw and experienced things other people didn’t, and for a long time I simply assumed everybody did.
One experience from 2009 has stayed particularly vivid.
I had recently started astrology school, with classes one weekend each month. I travelled mostly by bus and boat to the city. Around that time, my boss at the herbal shop gave me a moonstone crystal. She said she couldn’t use it because she was forever dropping it.
One weekend, sitting on the bus with the moonstone in my hand, it suddenly became painfully hot.
I looked out of the window and saw lights coming down the mountain near Bergen. There were many people carrying lanterns.
Then everything changed.
The modern landscape seemed to disappear, and what I was seeing felt like the 16th or 17th century. A woman accused of witchcraft was being taken away to be burned.
I felt physically sick watching it.
Then suddenly I was back on the bus. The vision was gone, but where I’d held the moonstone was a mark that looked and felt like a burn. It remained visible for almost a month.
Later, I told one of my astrology teachers, who was also very spiritually minded. According to him, the place where I’d seen the lanterns was associated with an old route used to bring accused witches and other prisoners toward Bergen.
That surprised me. I’d assumed prisoners would have been transported along ordinary roads, not across the mountain.
Was I seeing something that happened there centuries ago? Was the moonstone somehow connected? I don’t know, and I can’t prove what happened.
I can only tell you what I experienced.
Strangely, what stayed with me wasn’t fear. It was the same question I’ve asked after many unusual experiences:
