Day 16 — What would make the world better?
More empathy.
I look around sometimes and wonder when we became so detached from one another.
So much seems to revolve around money, status, possessions, followers, likes, and whatever is happening on the little screen we’re carrying in our hands. We can communicate with someone on the other side of the world in seconds, yet sometimes we barely notice the person standing beside us.
Technology isn’t necessarily the problem. It’s what happens when we become so absorbed in it—or in ourselves—that we stop seeing other people.
Empathy doesn’t require money or status. Sometimes it’s simply noticing that someone is struggling. Listening instead of judging. Helping rather than filming. Asking someone if they’re okay and actually waiting for the answer.
We don’t have to agree with everyone to have compassion for them.
I think the world desperately needs more people willing to look up from their phones, look at each other, and remember:
There is a human being on the other side.
More empathy wouldn’t solve everything.
But I think it would be a very good place to start. 💜
