💫 Three Things Challenge #MM516

14.08.2026

Today’s three words:

JEER • JAUNDICE • JEOPARDY

It is easy to jeer from the sidelines.

To criticise someone else’s choices.

To laugh at their mistakes.

To decide we know their whole story after seeing only one chapter.

Sometimes we look at other people through a kind of emotional jaundice, colouring everything we see with our own prejudices, experiences, jealousy, or assumptions.

And that’s when compassion can be placed in jeopardy.

Words matter.

A cruel comment that takes five seconds to write can stay with another person for years.

A rumour repeated for entertainment can become someone’s reputation.

A judgement made without knowing the truth can cause damage we never intended—or perhaps never bothered to consider.

We don’t have to understand every person we meet.

We don’t have to agree with everyone.

But we can choose not to add cruelty to a world already carrying enough of it.

Before we jeer, perhaps we should ask what we don’t know.

Before we judge, perhaps we should listen.

And before we speak, perhaps we should remember there is a human being on the other side of our words.

Kindness costs nothing. Cruelty can cost someone far more than we realise.

Good post Maggie. There is a line in the move Twister
‘When I want you opinion, I’ll give it to you.’ which I have never forgotten.
At my mother’s funeral, people I barely knew were hostile towards me, then I found out they believed I didn’t care about my Mum and had shirked my responsibility. I put a lot of people right as they had judged me by what my sister had said, which brought about another quote
What people think about me is not my business.
Thanks for joining in again today.

It’s a long story, but my sister and I have not spoken since, and only communicate with a Christmas card now though I do remember her birthday.

Sad it became like this, but understandable.

It is, but I grew tired of offering olive branches, so just accept it as it is.
