What’s a moment when a stranger completely restored your faith in people?

Sometimes it only takes one small act of kindness.
My husband is a wheelchair user, and our local health centre has the doctors and nurses on the second floor.
There is an elevator, but it’s old.
One day, my husband had an appointment there. We took the elevator upstairs without any problems.
Then his appointment finished.
And the elevator stopped working.
There we were on the second floor, with my husband in his wheelchair and a staircase between us and the exit.
We were trying to figure out what on earth we were going to do when a young man appeared.
He couldn’t have been more than eighteen.
He didn’t know us.
He didn’t have any responsibility for us.
But he saw that we needed help.
And he helped us get my husband and his wheelchair safely down the stairs.
I don’t even know if that young man realised how much his kindness meant to us that day.
There was no reward.
No photograph.
No social media post.
Just one human being seeing another human being who needed help and choosing to step forward.
With everything we hear about what’s wrong with the world, moments like this remind me that there are still incredibly kind people in it.
And sometimes they appear exactly when you need them.
You don’t have to change the whole world to make a difference. Sometimes you only have to help someone down the stairs.
