Blog anniversary

One year ago today, on August 7, 2025, I published my very first blog post.
WordPress kindly reminded me of it today.
I read it.
Then I wanted WordPress to kindly put it back where it found it. 🤭🫣
There is something slightly terrifying about meeting the version of yourself who wrote something a year ago.
Especially when apparently, I didn’t introduce myself gently.
No:
Hello, my name is Maggie. Welcome to my little corner of WordPress.
No easing anyone into things.
Oh no.
I apparently kicked the door open. 😂
My first post announced:
This is not a fan page.
This is not gossip.
This is remembrance.
This is testimony.
This is truth work.
Well then.
Hello to you too, Maggie. 😂😂😂
And I kept going.
- The veil.
- Spirit signs.
- Dreams.
- Astrology.
- Synchronicities.
- Liam.
- Justice.
- Soul promises.
All in my very first post.
Apparently I assumed anyone arriving at my new blog had already had coffee and was emotionally prepared. 😂
But underneath my embarrassment today, I can see something else.
I remember the woman who wrote those words.
I know why she needed to write them.
When I started this blog, I thought I knew exactly what it was going to be. Liam was at the heart of it, and so was my need to speak when I felt something important was being silenced.
What I didn’t know was that somewhere along the way, I would find more of my own voice too.
The Afterlove Voice grew.
And so did I.
This little blog became filled with poetry and stories, astrology and memories, music and photographs. There have been serious conversations and ridiculous ones. I’ve written about grief, justice, family, life, signs, love, ordinary days and extraordinary moments.
I’ve written limericks I never expected to write.
I’ve answered prompts that made me think deeply about my life.
I’ve also written about wombats.
We don’t need to discuss the wombats. 😂
And somewhere among all of that, something rather incredible happened.
Today marks one full year of blogging.
And for the last 317 days, I have posted every single day.
317 days.
I don’t think I realised what I was building while I was building it.
I was simply writing.
One post.
Then another.
And another.
Some were deeply personal. Some made me cry. Some made me angry. Some made me think.
And some were written while I was laughing so hard I could barely see the screen. 😂
That’s probably what I love most about looking back now.
My blog didn’t remain one thing.
Neither did I.
The first post ended with:
Welcome. You’re not alone.
Perhaps, one year later, those are still the right words.
Only now the door is properly open.
Although judging by my first post, I’m fairly certain I broke the hinges on Day One. 😂🚪💥
Thank you to everyone who has wandered through that door during this first year — whether you’ve been here from the beginning or only arrived yesterday.
Thank you for reading, commenting, laughing, sharing your stories and allowing me to share mine.
Here’s to Year Two.
And to wherever this strange, beautiful, unpredictable writing journey takes me next.
Happy first blog anniversary to The Afterlove Voice.
With love, coffee, poetry, and stardust,
