Summer Days in Fuerteventura 2018

Facebook memories took me back to 2018 today.
Looking through these photos felt like opening a scrapbook of one happy summer.
The girls were busy with their horse-riding lessons, studying for their Galopes exams and spending every spare moment with the horses. Looking back now, I can see how much confidence and joy those years gave them.

Our home was full of animals. We had more dogs then, and today only our sweet Bella is still with us. Seeing those old photos reminds me how every pet leaves its own paw print on our hearts.

One of the happiest memories was driving to Fuerteventura Airport to collect my children from Norway. Those arrivals were always filled with hugs, excitement, and plans for the adventures ahead.

Of course, we had to take them to one of our favourite places on the island—La Pared. It had beautiful outdoor swimming pools overlooking the Atlantic and a lovely restaurant where we could sit together after a swim.
Sadly, after the pandemic and lockdown, the pools and restaurant never reopened. It’s one of those places that now lives only in photographs and memories.
We also visited the impressive Kings of Fuerteventura statues and drove north through the famous Corralejo sand dunes, before stopping at the harbour where the ferry sails across to Lanzarote.

Looking back, none of these moments felt extraordinary at the time.
They were simply family days. Road trips. Horse lessons. Airport hugs. Swimming. Dogs curled up together after long days in the sun.
But perhaps that’s what memories are made of.
Not the grand occasions, but the ordinary days that quietly become some of the most treasured chapters of our lives.
