Before the Rain
The sky changed without asking permission.
One moment, the terrace held only sunshine,
the next, the wind had found its voice.
We laughed, gathering cushions, closing shutters, chasing flowerpots before the first drops fell.
Lightning stitched the mountains together.
Thunder rolled across an island still learning my name.
Years before, another storm had frightened a little girl far away in Norway.
Now, I stood beneath a different sky,
still respecting its power,
yet smiling when the rain arrived.
