Tonight, I am celebrating San Juan in Ajuy, one of the most magical places on Fuerteventura.

The sun slowly disappeared behind the volcanic cliffs, painting the sky in soft shades of gold, pink, and grey. The Atlantic rolled against the ancient rocks, carrying the whispers of countless tides that have shaped this rugged coastline.

As darkness falls, bonfires begin to glow.

San Juan is a night of transformation, a bridge between the old and the new. Across Spain, people gather to celebrate the shortest nights of the year with fire, water, music, and hope.

At exactly midnight, crowds rush into the ocean, walking backward into the waves to perform an important ritual. Three backward plunges are said to cleanse the spirit and bring good luck. Others take seven or twelve plunges, symbolizing stronger protection, abundance, healing, or a fresh start.

Fire releases what no longer serves us.

Water washes away what we are ready to leave behind.

And the heart quietly makes wishes for the journey ahead.

Standing here in Ajuy, surrounded by cliffs shaped by wind and sea, it feels easy to believe in old traditions. The ocean has a way of reminding us that life is always moving, always renewing itself.

Tonight I release the past with gratitude.

Tonight I welcome whatever comes next.

Happy Noche de San Juan.

With love, coffee, poetry, and stardust,

    Good morning, my friend ☀️

    How awesome! 👍☺️

In Syria, we had similar bonfire in the night of last December 8th when we were celebrating our liberation day. It was truly enjoyable! Fireworks, music, lights, drones, and lots of people. 🎆🎇
