Poetics: Something Borrowed, Something Blue
June Bride

Something old—
a wedding crown
more than two centuries old,
resting carefully above me
as if memory itself
had taken form.
A bunad
stitched with stories older than my own,
women before me walking quietly through its threads.
Something new—
two people promising forever without understanding yet how forever bends,
breaks,
heals,
and asks us to begin again.
Something borrowed—
tradition resting gently
against my shoulders,
history worn for a single day,
yet carried still.
Something blue—
the June sky above us,
wide enough to hold hope and hardship alike.
And a sixpence in my shoe—
for luck,
they said.
But now I think marriage
was never luck.
It was love
learning how to stay.
