Let Me

Mish at dVerse is our hostess today . Write a repetitive poem beginning each line with “Let them”. The topics can be trivial or more emotionally charged. If you like, you could follow each line with a response beginning with “Let me”, continuing the pattern throughout the poem.Write one stanza with “Let them” phrases, then pivot by following it with a second stanza of “Let me”.Simply title your poem “Let Them” or “Let Me” and see what transpires from there.

Poetics: “Let Them” Write Poetry

Let Me

Let them misunderstand
the shape of my healing.
Let them call silence surrender.
Let them mistake softness
for weakness.
Let them rush toward answers
as if truth arrives on command.

Let me move slowly.
Let me trust what lingers.
Let me keep gathering light
from broken places.
Let me believe that what survives storms
learns something holy about staying.

Let me remember—
not every flower blooms in spring.

Thank you for letting me (ie us) read this. That storm-survival couplet near the end reached me the most. Thanks

I love how you started with ‘let them’ and their negatives, Maggie, and shifted focus to the importance and value of your own positives. I especially love the thought of ‘gathering light from broken places’ and ‘what survives storms learns something holy about staying’.

A beautiful piece and response to the prompt. So wise, gentle yet powerful.

I especially LOVE this….as it reminds me of the philosophy of “wabi-sabi” and Kintsugi bowls.
