For dVerse Poets Pub where Frank said :

Frank Tassone, here, your host for today’s Haibun Monday, where we blend haiku and prose in Basho’s beloved hybrid. Today, let’s engage in remembrance.

Haibun Monday 5-25-26: Remembrance

What Remains

Remembrance arrives quietly. Not always in grand gestures or anniversaries, but in the smallest interruptions of ordinary days. A song heard unexpectedly. A scent passing through the kitchen. A phrase someone once said that suddenly returns, unchanged by time.

I have learned grief is not always heavy. Sometimes it sits beside you gently, like an old companion asking nothing except to be remembered.

There are people who leave the room, the country, the world—yet somehow never stop living inside us. In habits. In stories repeated. In the strange way our hands begin to move like theirs without permission.

Perhaps remembrance is not holding on.

Perhaps it is learning how love changes shape.

Absolutely beautifully written line, “I have learned grief is not always heavy. Sometimes it sits beside you gently, like an old companion asking nothing except to be remembered.” Oddly this made me more emotional than intended…well done and love the nuanced angle of grief…🩵

Grief has many shapes, but I try to remember the good things and memories.
