Hay

The Daily Spur 10 May 2026

Hay

Hay.

To some it is only dried grass.

But to those
who have lived beside horses,
hay becomes
part of the rhythm of life.

The scent of it
clinging to jackets,
boots,
hair,
and tired evening hands.

Bales stacked high
like golden walls
inside old barns.

The sound of chewing
in the quiet dusk.

The early mornings.
The muddy paths.
The wheelbarrows.
The endless feeding.

And somehow—
love existed inside
all that ordinary labor.

Because caring
for animals
teaches devotion
without words.

Hay was never
just hay to me.

It was routine.
Responsibility.
Comfort. Exhaustion.
Home.

And even now,
one single scent of it
can open an entire lifetime
inside my memory.

With love
