In response to Fandango’s Flashback Friday: https://mymindmappings.com/2026/05/01/fandangos-flashback-friday-may-1st/
Today’s Flashback Friday took me back to May 1st, 2016 —when I shared this quote on Facebook.
A quote often attributed to Shakespeare:
I always feel happy. You know why?Because I don’t expect anything from anyone. Expectations always hurt…
Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you pray, forgive. Before you hurt, feel. Before you hate, love. Before you quit, try. Before you die, live.
Back then, I remember reading it as a kind of guide —a list of how to be better, do better, feel better.
Simple. Clear. Almost comforting.
Ten years later… I read it a little differently.
Life isn’t always that tidy. We don’t always get the space to think before we speak,or the strength to love before we feel hurt.
But maybe that’s not the point.
Maybe it’s not a checklist. Maybe it’s a direction.
A gentle nudge back toward ourselves when we forget.
And one line still stays with me:
Before you quit, try.
Because living isn’t about getting it right every time —it’s about not giving up on yourself completely.
