Golden Shovel form at dVerse Poets Pub.

I’m new to this form, hopefully I got it right.

I borrowed this line :

“The witches ride, the night is wild.”— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust

In response to dVerse Poets Pub: https://wp.me/p1GTyJ-91J

Walpurgis Night

Something ancient stirs beneath the surface of The

old stories, carried in whispers of witches

who cross
unseen paths
as they ride,

between what is known and what is the

breath of something older than night

we feel it shifting—nothing ever truly is

still, not tonight, when everything turns wild.

I love that you chose a line from Faust by Goethe, Maggie, a play I studied at university in Germany in the 1970s – it brought back memories – and I love where the witches ride and their whispers took you.

It was, and I’ve seen it performed. I prefer it to Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus. I lost my copy in the great move from Germany to Ireland and then to London. Now I would love to revisit it.

This was awesome and brought me back to my first metal band I was in. We had a song called, Walpurgis Night, and it toally brought me back to my 18 yr old bass playing self so many years ago! Great theme and use of the Golden Shovel form!! 🎶

Thank you so much 💜. Walpurgis Night has very much folklore, so it came naturally to writing about the witches.
