Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge 27.04.2026

Timekeeper

The tortoise did not hurry. It never had to.

Rain gathered in shallow pools around its feet, the earth soft with memory. Grass bent gently as it moved, each step a decision older than urgency.

It had seen generations arrive loud and leave forgotten. Names carved into time like scratches in sand.

A child once touched its shell and laughed, calling it ancient. The tortoise remembered the child’s hands—warm, fleeting.

Now, the grass had grown over the place where the child once stood.

The tortoise blinked slowly, lifting its head toward the quiet sky.

To others, it was moving. But in truth—

it was the world that kept rushing past it.

Ooh cool! Have you had your tortoise a long time?

I let the world rush past, and live life on my own timeframe.🙃

      Thank you Melissa 💜

We have had Oscar the tortoise for 10 years now. He definitely has own personality, lol 😆.

If he sees black shoes, he goes for a full mating . 😂
