Expect is a quiet weight.

A thought placed
on the future—
of what should happen,
what must come,
what we hope
will be.

We build expectations
like invisible paths,
leading life
where we think
it should go.

But life
does not 
always follow.

It bends.
It shifts.
It surprises.

I have learned
that expectation
can hold us tightly—closing our hands
around something
not yet formed.

And sometimes
the moment we release it—
truly let go—

is the moment
life begins
to give us
what we didn’t know
to ask for.

Not less.
Just different.

And often,
more.
