Keeper of Threads

No one saw him arrive.

One moment the yarn lay untouched — soft skeins of sunlight, honey, and earth piled gently on the white bed like small sleeping suns.

The next—

two eyes.

Watching.

Golden against black, steady and knowing, as if he had always been there, waiting for the right moment to reveal himself.

The threads did not belong to anyone, not really.

They had been gathered over time — unfinished scarves, abandoned dreams, gifts never given, winters survived. Each strand held a story. Each knot, a pause in someone’s becoming.

The cat knew this.

He was not interested in playing.

He did not bat at the yarn or unravel it for sport. Instead, he guarded it. Watched over it like a quiet archivist of all that had once mattered and might matter again.

A loose thread slipped free from one golden skein.

He leaned forward.

Gently.

Carefully.

As if touching memory itself.

Somewhere in the room, unseen, a heart stirred — remembering something soft, something left behind, something not yet finished.

The cat blinked once.

Threads do not disappear, he seemed to say.
They wait.

For the hands that will return.
For the story that will continue.
For the warmth that always finds its way back.

And so he stayed—

half-hidden,
half-shadow,
fully aware—

keeper of every thread that still had life in it.
