The Quiet Glue
By default,
we call it family—
something we inherit
through blood and stories
passed down across generations.
But sometimes it is something else, too:
the invisible glue
holding together fragile memories,
shared laughter,
and the spaces where we still miss
those who once sat at the table.
Life does not follow a perfect script.
Even divorce can redraw the map
of who we thought we were.
Yet hearts are wider than we imagine.
Some people arrive like sunlight—
unexpected, but warm—
and suddenly you are welcome,
truly loved,
accepted,
and included
in ways the old story never taught.
Perhaps that is the real inheritance:
not just the family we are born into,
but the one we learn to build
with open hands.
