Superficial

Superficial.

It sounds like an accusation.

Too concerned with appearance.
Too polished.
Too surface-level.

But surfaces matter.

Skin protects.
Walls hold roofs upright.
First impressions open doors.

Not everything shallow
is meaningless.

The ocean has a surface too—
and it reflects the sky.

Still, there is a difference
between surface
and substance.

Between caring how something looks
and having nothing underneath.

Superficial becomes hollow
when it replaces depth.
When shine stands in for truth.
When performance drowns authenticity.

I’ve learned this—
it’s not wrong to tend the surface.

Just don’t mistake it
for the whole story.

The real strength
is when depth
and surface
coexist.

Polished.
But rooted.

Seen.
But real.
