Green After the Dry
This year the island changes its mind. After years of dust and ochre hills, rain has come steadily, insistently, and now the ground answers in green. I walk the familiar path and do not recognize it. Flowers push through places I once called barren. The wind still moves the same, but it carries a different scent—alive, almost sweet. I think of how easily we grow used to endurance, how quickly we forget that renewal is also part of the pattern. I stand there longer than usual, letting the color argue gently with my certainty.
spring rain at dusk
even the old stone wall
softens to moss.
