Word: Eavesdropper

Eavesdropper

There are moments when I feel
like an unintentional eavesdropper—
not in the literal sense,
but in the way I absorb the world.

I overhear joy
before it’s fully formed.
I feel quiet sorrow
echoing in someone’s eyes.
I catch fragments of hope
in spaces where others aren’t ready to speak.

Being an eavesdropper in life
isn’t about prying—
it’s about noticing what’s there
before words arrive.

Sometimes I wish I could turn it off
and give my heart some peace.
Other times I’m grateful
because those unheard moments
tell me what’s important
long before language does.

Maybe this is what it means
to be present—
not just listening,
but feeling the stories
waiting to be told.

And from time to time,
when the world feels too crowded
with noise that doesn’t matter,
I remind myself:
not everything is for me to know—
just what’s meant to be heard.
