Symbiotic

My daughters are only thirteen months apart.
So close in age that, for years, people called them
symbiotic twins.

They grew side by side—
learning the world together,
sharing language, glances, moods.
What one felt, the other often knew
without a word being spoken.

Symbiotic doesn’t mean identical.
It means connected.
Mutually shaping, supporting, influencing—
while still becoming themselves.

As they’ve grown, I’ve watched that bond evolve.
Less leaning, more choosing.
Still close, but stronger in who they are individually.

Today, my youngest turns nineteen.
And I celebrate not just her birthday,
but the quiet miracle of that early connection—
a shared beginning that gave them both
roots and wings.
