Midnight Encounter
Tonight, on a dark unpaved road, the universe gifted me a moment of pure comedy gold.
I was driving to pick up my oldest daughter from her evening class when a little flash of movement jumped straight into my headlights — and suddenly a bunny shot into the air like someone had pressed his emergency launch button.
One second: total darkness.
Next second: BOING.
A startled rabbit ascending like a confused astronaut.
He landed, slowly turned toward the car lights with the most dazzled, offended, “excuse me??” expression I have ever seen.
Truly — his whole face said:
“What the actual fuck just happened?”
And then the show continued.
Instead of hopping away politely like a normal bunny, he began zig-zagging down the road in front of my car, glancing over his shoulder every few seconds as if I were chasing him:
“Ma’am, please, I’m delicate. I wasn’t prepared for this level of drama.”
I swear he had character.
A whole personality.
A tiny nocturnal diva caught in his own spotlight.
In a world that has thrown so much heaviness at us, moments like this remind me that the universe still has a sense of humour — and sometimes it delivers it in the shape of a confused bunny on a dusty road under the stars.
