What do you think is the future of AI?

Well, first of all…

Artificial intelligence has been around a lot longer than many people seem to realise.

Sometimes, listening to conversations about AI, you’d think it suddenly appeared out of nowhere a few years ago.

One morning, humanity woke up, opened its computers and discovered artificial intelligence sitting there drinking a virtual cup of coffee.

But AI research goes back decades.

We’ve been using technologies involving artificial intelligence in different forms for years, often without even thinking about it.

But AI research goes back decades.

We’ve been using technologies involving artificial intelligence in different forms for years, often without even thinking about it.

And now, with the rapid development of generative AI, it’s become something almost everyone is talking about.

Some people are excited.

Others are frightened.

And some seem convinced that we’re only a few steps away from a science-fiction movie becoming reality.

Personally?

I believe AI is here to stay.

And I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing.

Like so many technologies before it, AI has the potential to do an enormous amount of good.

It can help researchers analyse information, support medical discoveries, improve accessibility and make certain tasks easier.

We humans need to maintain control over how far AI develops and how it is used.

Technology can advance incredibly quickly.

Sometimes faster than society can properly understand its consequences.

And just because we can create something doesn’t automatically mean we should.

We need sensible boundaries.

We need accountability.

We need transparency.

And we need to think carefully about privacy, safety, misinformation and the ways AI might affect people’s jobs and everyday lives.

I also worry about people becoming too dependent on technology.

There’s nothing wrong with asking AI for help.

But we shouldn’t stop thinking for ourselves.

We still need curiosity.

Critical thinking.

Creativity.

Empathy.

And the ability to question what we’re being told.

After all, AI can make mistakes.

And if people blindly accept everything it produces, those mistakes can spread very quickly.

A confident answer isn’t necessarily a correct answer.

That’s something worth remembering.

I don’t believe the solution is to stop technological progress.

History has shown us that new inventions often create both opportunities and challenges.

What matters is how we respond to them.

We need researchers, governments, developers and ordinary people to be part of the conversation.

And we need safeguards that evolve alongside the technology.

Because ultimately, AI should serve humanity.

Humanity shouldn’t become a servant to AI.

I’m in agreement! AI is here to stay whether we like it or not, so all we can do is embrace it!
