The World’s Most Unreliable Menu
Welcome to another edition of Fibbing Friday!
This week, we’re exploring the wonderful world of food. Unfortunately, nobody told me I was supposed to know what these dishes actually are.
So, I’ve invented my own menu. Bon appétit!
1. What is frutti di mare?
An Italian fruit salad served exclusively to mermaids. Unfortunately, the dolphins keep stealing all the watermelon.
2. What is a rum truffle?
A mushroom that has spent far too much time soaking in Caribbean rum. It’s usually found staggering around the forest singing pirate songs.
3. What is a spicy wedge?
A potato that has developed a terrible attitude and refuses to share the plate with ordinary chips.
4. What is cock-a-leekie?
A rooster with a plumbing problem who keeps calling the farmer because his henhouse roof is leaking.
5. What is baked Alaska?
What happens when someone forgets to turn off the oven while attempting to defrost an entire American state.
6. What is a battenburg?
A medieval German castle inhabited entirely by bats who insist on wearing tiny royal crowns.
7. What is pease pudding?
The dessert served to children who refuse to eat their peas. The parents simply disguise them with custard and hope nobody notices.
8. What is laverbread?
A special loaf of bread made for people who enjoy eating while taking a bubble bath. Waterproof butter sold separately.
9. What is a Welsh oggie?
A very rare Welsh dragon that has forgotten how to breathe fire and now communicates entirely by shouting, “Oggie! Oggie! Oggie!”
10. What is crempog?
A French frog who has opened a luxury skincare salon specializing in anti-wrinkle cream for elderly toads.
And there you have it!
Ten culinary masterpieces that would probably get my restaurant closed before lunchtime.
Today’s chef’s special: Rum truffle with spicy wedges, followed by baked Alaska.
