What’s a personal mantra or philosophy you live by?
I’ve collected quite a few sayings and philosophies over the years, but if I had to choose one that has carried me through different chapters of my life, it would probably be:
Never give up on yourself. 💜
Life doesn’t always follow the plan we imagined.
Actually, I’m beginning to suspect life has never even seen my plan. 🤣
There have been times when I’ve had to change direction completely.
Times when I’ve had to begin again.
Times when all I could do was take things one day at a time.
And sometimes even one day feels too big.
Then you take it one hour at a time.
One breath.
One step.
I’ve learned that strength doesn’t always look impressive from the outside.
Sometimes strength is getting out of bed when you’d rather hide under the duvet.
Sometimes it’s asking for help.
Sometimes it’s saying no.
Sometimes it’s walking away.
Sometimes it’s standing up for yourself after spending years trying to keep everyone else happy.
And sometimes it’s simply saying:
“I’m still here.”
I’ve also learned that we don’t stop becoming who we are just because we’ve reached a certain age.
I’m still learning.
Still changing.
Still writing.
Still creating.
Still discovering things about myself.
I started writing again.
Then poetry became lyrics.
Lyrics became songs.
And suddenly I found myself doing things I never imagined I’d be doing at this stage of my life. 🎶💜
That’s why I don’t believe it’s ever too late to discover another part of yourself.
Another philosophy I carry with me comes from my grandmother:
“Learning and wisdom are not a heavy burden.”
I’ve always loved that.
Everything we experience teaches us something—even if sometimes the lesson arrives wearing muddy boots and kicking the door down. 😂
And then there’s my favourite Carl Jung quote:
“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
Perhaps all of these sayings lead back to the same thing.
Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Listen to yourself.
Take life one day at a time.
And whatever happens…
Don’t give up on yourself.
Because sometimes the version of you that you’re still becoming is waiting just around the corner. 💜
