Jim Adam has announced that he is stepping down from hosting his Thursday Inspiration Prompt. Both he and Paula Light, the predecessor host of this prompt, based it mostly around music. I have been a regular responder to Jim’s Thursday challenge and asked him if I could take over his time slot. He gave me his blessing.

But I am going to take Thursday Inspiration in a different direction. Instead of giving you a song and a word as inspiration, I am going to share with you an image that was generated by one of a handful of AI text-to-image apps — ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Leonardo, Ideogram, and others — and ask you to use that image as your inspiration for a story, a poem, or maybe just your raw reaction to the AI image.

Thursday (AI Art) Inspiration

“Whiskey. Neat.”

The robot tilted its metallic head.

“Based on your previous drinking patterns, I recommend water.”

The cowboy stared at it.

“I didn’t ask for a recommendation.”

“Your liver did.”

Silence fell across the saloon.

The cowboy slowly removed his hat.

“Son… you’re new here, aren’t you?”

The robot polished the glass.

“Correct. Would you like me to generate an apology?”

“Just pour the damn whiskey.”

“Request denied.”

The cowboy sighed.

“I miss human bartenders.”

This was great, Maggie. Is this what the future holds for humanity, where bots determine what is best for us and we lose our free will?

      Thanks, Fandango!
I hope not! I’m quite happy for the bots to offer suggestions, inspiration, and perhaps occasionally tell us we’ve had enough whiskey, but I think the final decision should always remain ours.
I’d rather keep my free will — mistakes and all! 😉
