The cosmic atmosphere shifts noticeably this week as Venus stations retrograde on 3 October, beginning a journey backwards through Scorpio and, eventually, Libra.

Venus rules love, attraction, beauty, pleasure, relationships, money and the things we value. When she turns retrograde, however, her energy becomes more reflective. Instead of asking What do I want?, Venus begins asking a much deeper question:

Why do I want it?

And sometimes the answer surprises us.

This isn’t necessarily the best moment for dramatic makeovers, impulsive romantic decisions or expensive purchases made simply because something suddenly looks irresistible. What sparkles beneath Venus retrograde can look very different once she begins moving forward again.

But this cycle isn’t here to spoil our fun.

It is here to reveal what lies underneath our desires.

And because Venus begins her retrograde journey in Scorpio, underneath is exactly where we’re going.

Scorpio doesn’t do superficial. It takes us beneath appearances and into intimacy, trust, jealousy, loyalty, power, attachment and the things we would rather keep hidden. Old feelings can resurface. Former relationships may cross our minds—or occasionally our paths. Something we believed we’d finished with may suddenly ask for another look.
