Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is
“inner/outer.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you’d like. Bonus points if you use both. Enjoy!
The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS September 26, 2026

Inner / Outer
Inner.
Outer.
Two little words that made me think about how different those two worlds can be.
The outer me might be sitting quietly with a cup of coffee, looking perfectly peaceful.
The inner me?
She’s running seventeen different conversations, writing half a poem, remembering something embarrassing from 1987, wondering what we’re having for dinner and suddenly deciding that I absolutely need to know some completely useless fact at midnight. 😂
It’s busy in there.
I think we’re all a little like that.
We see someone’s outer world and assume we know what’s happening inside.
A smile.
A laugh.
A photograph.
A few words on a screen.
But we don’t see the thoughts behind them.
The worries.
The memories.
The dreams nobody has been told about yet.
The battles fought quietly.
Or the ridiculous things that make someone laugh when nobody else would understand why.
Sometimes my inner world is louder than my outer one.
Actually…
Most of the time. 😂
I’m naturally drawn inward.
Give me music, writing, meditation, the stars and a little peace and quiet, and I’m perfectly happy wandering around inside my own head.
Although that’s occasionally dangerous.
That’s how things like Arena 51 happen. 👽🤣
But our inner world eventually finds its way outward.
A thought becomes a poem.
A feeling becomes a song.
A memory becomes a story.
An idea becomes something we share with another person.
And suddenly something that existed only inside us is out there in the world.
Maybe that’s why creating things feels so personal.
We’re taking tiny pieces of our inner selves and placing them into the outer world, hoping someone somewhere might recognise a piece of themselves in them too.
So perhaps inner and outer aren’t really opposites.
They’re connected by all the little ways we express who we are.
Words.
Music.
Art.
Kindness.
Laughter.
Even typos, apparently. 😂
And if my outer world occasionally looks calm while my inner world resembles seventeen browser tabs, three songs playing simultaneously and an alien DJ preparing for Arena 51…
Don’t worry.
That’s perfectly normal around here. 👽🎶🤣💜
Bonus points, Linda? I used both! 😂
