What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Oh, there have been a few adventures over the years, but one that comes to mind happened many moons ago, when my husband and I were expecting our first child together. 💜
My three older children were spending a week with their father, and some friends of ours were attending a dog show on the east coast of Norway.
So we had an idea.
Why not surprise them?
We packed the car, brought our dogs along and set off on a little road trip.
No grand plan. No complicated itinerary. Just the two of us, the dogs and the prospect of seeing our friends.
They had no idea we were coming.
And you should have seen their faces when we turned up at their camping hut!
I think it took them a moment to believe we were actually standing there.
Surprise! We brought ourselves. And the dogs.
There was just one small problem.
We hadn’t booked anywhere to stay, and there were no camping huts available.
Oops.
But every spontaneous adventure needs a little twist, doesn’t it?
Our friends kindly took care of the dogs, while my husband and I found ourselves checking into a fancy hotel instead.
We’d set off on a surprise visit to a dog show and somehow ended up having a rather lovely hotel stay.
The dogs got a sleepover with friends.
We got a comfortable bed.
And our friends got the shock of their lives.
I’d call that a successful trip! 😂💜
Looking back, I think that’s what I love about spontaneous adventures. Sometimes the best memories come from deciding to do something without planning every little detail.
Of course, these days I’d probably check the accommodation situation before packing the car.
Probably.
