How do you make time for self-care?

For me, self-care doesn’t necessarily mean a spa day, a shopping trip or disappearing somewhere for an entire weekend.

Although I certainly wouldn’t complain about a peaceful weekend. 🤣💜

Most of the time, it’s about finding small moments for myself in the middle of everyday life.

Meditation is one of those moments.

It helps me find a little stillness, especially when life feels busy or overwhelming. Sometimes I just need to close my eyes, breathe and reconnect with myself.

Then there’s music. 🎶

Music has always been part of my life. It can lift my mood, help me work through difficult feelings or simply give me a few minutes to escape into another world.

And, of course, there’s writing.

Sometimes I write poetry. Sometimes stories. Sometimes song lyrics.

And sometimes I sit down to answer a simple WordPress prompt and somehow end up writing half my life story. 😂

Writing gives me somewhere to put my thoughts. It helps me make sense of things, express feelings and find a little joy in being creative.

Then, when the opportunity comes, I love to go swimming.

Sometimes, while my husband is at the hospital for dialysis, I use a little of that time to go for a swim.

Being in the water gives me a different kind of peace.

For a while, I’m not thinking about appointments, transport, household chores or everything waiting to be done.

I’m simply swimming.

And that little break can make such a difference.

I’ve learned that self-care doesn’t always require hours of free time. Sometimes it’s a few minutes of meditation, a favourite song, a page of writing or a swim squeezed into an otherwise busy day.

Of course, there are days when I don’t manage much of any of it.

And that’s life.

I don’t want self-care to become yet another task on a list of things I should be doing.

It’s supposed to help me feel better, not give me something else to feel guilty about. 😂

So I take those little moments when I can.

A quiet breath.

A song.

A few words on a page.

A swim.

And, naturally, a cup of coffee.

Beautifully written, Maggie. 💜✨ I love the reminder that self-care doesn’t have to be something grand it can simply be those precious little moments when we reconnect with ourselves. A quiet breath, a favorite song, a few words on a page, a peaceful swim, or that essential cup of coffee. ☕😊 Sometimes the smallest moments bring us the greatest peace. Thank you for sharing this beautiful reflection. 💫🌷
