September — Day 19
Do you tend to forgive and forget, forgive but not forget… or neither?
I think it depends on what happened.
For everyday things — little misunderstandings, thoughtless comments or mistakes — I can usually forgive and forget. We all get things wrong sometimes, and I don’t see the point in carrying every small irritation around with me.
But when it comes to something serious, it’s different.
I can forgive the action, in the sense that I choose not to let it keep taking up space in my life. That doesn’t mean I excuse what happened, and it certainly doesn’t mean I have to trust the person again.
And I don’t forget.
Remembering isn’t necessarily holding a grudge. Sometimes it’s how we learn where our boundaries need to be.
I can wish someone well without inviting them back into my life. I can let go of anger without pretending nothing happened.
So my answer is both, depending on the circumstances.
For the small things, I forgive and forget.
For the serious things, I may forgive — but I remember what the experience taught me. 💜
My new song “Silenced, but not broken” is now avaliable on streaming platforms. 💜
