Three Things Challenge #MM546

Today’s three words:
OPTION • ORIGINAL • OUGHT.
The Original
For years, she thought she ought to be different.
Quieter.
More sensible.
Less emotional.
Less stubborn.
Less likely to say exactly what she thought.
There always seemed to be an option someone else preferred.
You could dress differently.
You could stop dreaming so much.
You could be more like everyone else.
She tried.
For a while.
It was exhausting.
Then one day she realised something rather obvious:
Why spend your life trying to become a copy when you arrived as an original?
So she stopped editing herself for other people’s comfort.
She wore what made her happy.
Played the music too loudly.
Wrote the strange stories.
Asked the awkward questions.
Loved fiercely.
Changed her mind when she learned something new.
And occasionally did absolutely nothing simply because she wanted to.
Did everyone approve?
Of course not.
But approval had become optional too.
She poured herself another coffee and smiled.
Perhaps the person I ought to be is simply the person I already am. 💜
