How does your mindset affect your financial success?
Financial success?
🤣🤣🤣
I’m on a disability pension, so my basic financial strategy is remarkably simple:
Pension in.
Money out.
Try to make the bit in between last until the next pension comes in.
There you go.
Financial wisdom by Maggie.
Both my husband and I were already on disability pensions before we moved to the Canary Islands 15 years ago, so we’ve never built our lives around climbing a career ladder, chasing bigger salaries or trying to become wealthy.
We’ve simply learned to live with what comes in.
Of course, life has changed enormously over those years.
Circumstances change. Priorities change. Unexpected expenses appear from absolutely nowhere and announce:
“Hello! Remember that money you thought you had?”
And particularly over the last few years, with my husband’s accident, dialysis, health issues and everything else life has thrown at us, our priorities have had to change again.
So yes, I suppose mindset does affect financial success.
Just not in the way some motivational posts would have you believe.
You know the ones:
“Think like a millionaire and you’ll become one.”
Really?
Because I’ve been thinking about several million euros for quite some time now and my bank account appears to have missed the memo.
If positive thinking alone created money, I’d be writing this from my private yacht.
Although knowing me, I’d probably still be complaining about the Wi-Fi.
For me, having the right mindset about money means something much simpler.
Prioritising.
Adapting.
Making things stretch.
Knowing the difference between something you need and something you simply want.
And perhaps most importantly, not measuring the value of your life by the amount of money sitting in your bank account.
Would I like more money?
Of course.
I’m spiritual, not stupid. 🤣🤣🤣
More money would make plenty of things easier.
But I also know that some of the things that make me happiest don’t cost very much at all.
Sitting outside with a cup of coffee.
Watching the stars.
Writing.
Creating music.
Laughing with my family.
Watching Bella steal yet another shoe while Oscar waits hopefully to see whether it’s black enough to become his next girlfriend.
So perhaps my definition of financial success isn’t becoming rich.
It’s paying what needs to be paid, taking care of the people I love, adapting when life changes, making the best of what we have—and still finding reasons to laugh along the way.
My financial philosophy therefore remains:
Pension in.
Money out.
Coffee first.
Figure out the rest as we go.
