Today has been an emotional day.
This morning, my heart was very much in Norway.
We watched the livestreams of King Harald V’s funeral, joining so many others in saying goodbye. Even though I have lived in the Canary Islands for fifteen years, Norway is still home in a different way. You don’t simply leave behind the country where you grew up, the memories, the traditions, or the people who have been part of the background of your life.
There were tears today. Many of them.
But 9 September also carries a completely different memory for me.
Today it is 24 years since my husband and I became a couple. ❤️

On 9 September 2002, our story began.
Looking at this old photograph makes me smile. We look so young! And, of course, there is the wonderfully dramatic purple glitter surrounding us.
Apparently even all those years ago, purple had to make an appearance.
We had no idea what the next twenty-four years would bring.
Five children between us. Our daughters growing from little girls into young women. A move from Norway to the Canary Islands. Animals, horses, cats, dogs and enough chaos to fill several books. 😂 There have been wonderful years and incredibly difficult ones. There has been laughter, fear, illness, loss, enormous changes and moments when life tested us more than we ever imagined it would.
But through all those different versions of our lives, there has always been us.
And then there is the date itself.
9/9.
We certainly weren’t thinking about numerology or portals when we became a couple. 😂 We were simply two people falling in love.
Yet somehow, the universe chose 9/9 for the beginning of our story.
Nine is associated with endings, transformation, wisdom and the completion of cycles — making space for something new to begin.
Perhaps that feels especially poignant today.
Because this 9/9 has contained both an ending and a continuation.
Today, I mourned.
Today, I remembered.
And today, I celebrated.
It is strange how the human heart can hold grief and happiness at exactly the same time. One doesn’t cancel out the other. Perhaps that is one of the things twenty-four years of living and loving teaches you.
Life isn’t divided neatly into happy days and sad days.
Sometimes they are the same day.
So tonight, after such an emotional 9 September, I am grateful for the man beside me and for the twenty-four years behind us.
We didn’t choose 9/9.
We chose each other.
And maybe, just maybe…
9/9 chose us. ❤️
Happy 24 years to us, my love.
Through everything.
Still here. Still us. Still choosing each other. ❤️
And next year?
A quarter of a century.
Now that makes me feel old!
