Uranus Retrograde — When the Pendulum Swings

Sometimes change arrives like lightning.

One moment everything is familiar.

The next, the sky cracks open and there is no returning to what existed before.

That is the Uranus we usually recognise.

But Uranus retrograde can work differently.

Instead of changing the world around us overnight, it begins quietly changing our relationship with that world.

And sometimes the greatest surprise is discovering that the person who changed…

was us.

When Certainty Begins to Shift

Perhaps there is something you have been absolutely certain about.

A belief.

A relationship.

A direction.

An argument you’ve defended repeatedly.

A version of yourself you’ve protected because you believed it was simply who you were.

Then Uranus begins moving backwards through the zodiac, and something peculiar happens.

The edges of that certainty begin to soften.

Not necessarily because somebody convinced you.

Not because you lost the argument.

And certainly not because anyone forced you.

You simply begin seeing something you couldn’t see before.

The pendulum moves.

And suddenly the view from the other side doesn’t look quite as impossible as it once did.

♅ Uranus Doesn’t Ask Permission

Uranus is the planet of awakening, rebellion, liberation and disruption.

It breaks patterns that have become too small for us.

But during the retrograde cycle, much of that rebellion can turn inward.

Instead of asking:

“What needs to change out there?”

we may begin asking:

“What needs to change in me?”

That can be uncomfortable.

Because changing your mind sometimes requires admitting that an older version of you didn’t have the whole picture.

But that isn’t failure.

That’s growth.

You Are Allowed to Change Your Mind

There is a strange pressure in the world to remain consistent forever.

Once you’ve chosen a side, apparently you’re expected to live there permanently.

But human beings aren’t statues.

We learn.

We experience.

We discover information we didn’t have before.

We outgrow beliefs.

Sometimes we even discover that something we once rejected contains a piece of truth we weren’t ready to hear.

Uranus retrograde reminds us:

Changing your mind doesn’t necessarily mean betraying who you were.

Sometimes it means honouring who you have become.

Not Every Revolution Needs an Explosion

This is what makes a Uranus retrograde different from those classic Uranian lightning-bolt moments.

The revelation may come first.

The external change can come later.

Over the coming months, something may slowly rearrange itself inside you.

Perhaps you’ll reconsider a decision.

Return to an abandoned idea.

Question an old rebellion.

Recognise where you’ve become rigid.

Or realise that something you once fought desperately to preserve no longer belongs in your future.

There doesn’t have to be a dramatic announcement.

No table flipping required. 😂

You can simply begin walking differently.

The Longer Journey

Uranus will remain retrograde into February 2027, giving this process time to unfold.

And that’s important.

Uranus may be famous for sudden change, but not every awakening needs to become immediate action.

Some revelations need time.

We need to live beside them for a while.

Test them.

Question them.

See whether they’re genuine awakenings or simply reactions.

Because when Uranus finally turns direct again, what began as an uncomfortable thought may have become something much stronger:

a truth you can actually live.

Questions for the Week

Where have I become so certain that I’ve stopped listening?

What belief am I beginning to question?

Am I holding onto something because it is still true—or because admitting I’ve changed feels uncomfortable?

And perhaps most importantly:

If nobody judged me for changing my mind, what would I allow myself to reconsider?

Cosmic Whisper

Not every revolution begins with a battle.

Sometimes it begins with a quiet thought:

What if I was wrong?

And somewhere inside that question, a locked door opens.

The pendulum swings.

The view changes.

And you realise that changing your mind wasn’t the end of who you were.

It was evidence that you were still becoming. ♅💜

♅ Uranus — 6° Gemini

“Drilling for Oil”

Or in another traditional wording:

“Workmen Drilling for Oil.”

And this is almost perfect for a retrograde.

The symbol isn’t about skimming the surface.

You drill down.

Through layer after layer.

You don’t even know with certainty whether you’re going to find what you’re looking for—but something tells you there is more underneath.

The traditional interpretation speaks about penetrating deeply into something’s potential, concentrating effort and being willing to take a risk in pursuit of something valuable. Jones gave the degree the keyword “Speculation.”

For Uranus retrograde, though, I’d take it somewhere more psychological.

What are we drilling into?

Uranus in Gemini concerns ideas, information, communication, beliefs and the way our minds connect things.

Then Uranus turns backwards on a degree saying:

DIG DEEPER.

Maybe the opinion you’ve defended isn’t really yours.

Maybe underneath your certainty is fear.

Maybe underneath your rebellion is an old wound.

Maybe something you dismissed contains information you weren’t ready to see.

Or perhaps you’ve been searching everywhere outside yourself for an answer that has been buried inside you all along.

♊ Uranus Retrograde at 6° Gemini

There’s another fascinating dimension.

Oil is stored energy.

It has existed underground for an immense amount of time, unseen, until someone drills deeply enough to reach it.

That’s a gorgeous metaphor for Uranus retrograde.

An awakening doesn’t necessarily give us something new.

Sometimes it uncovers something that was already there.

A truth.

An idea.

A forgotten part of ourselves.

A completely different way of looking at something.

And once you’ve reached that layer…

you can’t exactly pretend you didn’t find it. 😂

That’s very Uranus.

The Sabian Message

The truth may not be waiting on the surface.
Question what you know.
Drill beneath the certainty.
Explore the uncomfortable layers.
Because somewhere underneath the person you thought you had to be, something valuable has been waiting to be discovered.

The question: What if I was wrong?

The journey: Dig deeper.

The discovery: A new perspective.
