September — Day 6
Do you have a name for your whip (car) or mode of transportation? If so, what’s the name?
Do I have a name for my car?
Renting Disaster.
For the last 16 months, I’ve had a different rental car almost every month. At this point, naming them individually would require a baby-name book and a spreadsheet.
Just when I get used to one — where everything is, how it drives and which button does what — it’s time to hand it back and meet the next member of the fleet.
And don’t get me started on lane assist.
On some cars I haven’t even been able to switch the bloody thing off properly. The rental I have now lets me disable it, but I have to go through six or seven different buttons to get there.
I know it’s supposed to be a safety feature, but I really don’t like a car trying to correct my steering for me. Especially on roads where I can see what’s happening and the car’s computer apparently has other ideas.
So every new rental begins with another little adventure:
Where is everything?
What does this button do?
How do I turn THAT off?
And why is the car arguing with me?
I don’t have a car anymore.
I have a monthly mystery subscription to transportation.
So collectively, I think they’ve earned one name:
Renting Disaster. 😂
And any day now, I expect Renting Disaster #17 to arrive and introduce me to an entirely new collection of buttons.

My new song “Silenced, but not broken” is now avaliable on all streaming platforms. 💜
