What’s the best thing you’ve ever found randomly on the street?

This one is easy.
Luna. ❤️🐾
About six months after we moved to the Canary Islands, I went to the rubbish containers one day.
And I heard something.
A puppy.
Someone had thrown her away in the rubbish.
I found this tiny little girl and took her home.
She didn’t have a collar and she wasn’t microchipped, but we still put up posters in case someone was looking for a missing puppy.
Nobody came forward.
We took her to the veterinarian, who estimated that she was only about three months old.
And just like that…
Luna became ours.
Or perhaps we became hers. ❤️
She grew from the little puppy I’d found beside the rubbish containers into my shadow.
Where I went, Luna went.
For twelve years, she was part of our family and part of my everyday life.
It’s strange to think about that day now.
I had simply gone to throw away some rubbish.
I wasn’t looking for a dog.
I certainly wasn’t expecting to come home with a puppy.
But sometimes the most precious things in our lives arrive completely unexpectedly.
Luna died two years ago at twelve years old.
And I still miss her terribly.
When I look at her photographs, I sometimes think about how differently her story could have ended.
Someone had decided she was disposable.
She wasn’t.
She was loved.
She had a home.
She had a family.
And she gave us twelve years of memories in return.
So what’s the best thing I’ve ever randomly found?
Not money.
Not jewellery.
Not some forgotten treasure.
A little puppy in the rubbish who became one of the greatest treasures I could ever have found.
My Luna. ❤️🐾
