What do you see # 356- 31 August, 2026

Some people see a blue door.
I see home.
Here in the Canary Islands, colours can tell stories. Traditionally, blue doors are associated with fishermen, while green doors are associated with farmers and farm life.
And where I live, that tradition doesn’t feel like something belonging only to the past.
Walk through town and you’ll see blue doors everywhere.
Then walk down towards the harbour and you’ll understand why.
Fishing is still very much part of life here. The harbour is filled with fishing boats, and many local families still make their living from the sea.
Our own door is green — the farmer’s colour. 💚
Quite fitting considering where and how we live.
So when I looked at this week’s photograph, I didn’t just see beautiful white walls, bougainvillea and a pretty blue door.
I thought of fishermen leaving while the morning was still dark.
Boats returning to harbour.
Families whose lives have followed the rhythm of the ocean for generations.
Perhaps that’s what I love about old traditions.
Sometimes they don’t disappear.
Sometimes they’re still right there in front of us —
painted on the doors.
