Here are this week’s questions & my answers
1 Do you enjoy shopping? Food, clothes, shoes etc.
Not as much as I used to.
These days I have discovered a much easier solution:
Give my card to my daughters and let them get whatever we need.
They are quite happy to go shopping, and I’m quite happy not to go shopping.
Everybody wins!
2 What is something you used to buy often but either buy less or no longer buy at all?
When we lived in Gran Canaria, we used to go to the farmers’ market every week and buy fresh fruit and vegetables.
I loved that.
Unfortunately, we haven’t had quite the same opportunity here in Fuerteventura, so it is something we don’t do nearly as often anymore.
There is something special about buying locally grown produce directly from the people who grow it. I do miss those weekly trips.
3 Food shopping only: do you prefer to shop in person or online?
In person.
Even though I happily send my daughters shopping for me, if I’m buying food, I prefer going into the shop.
I like being able to see what I’m buying, especially when it comes to fresh food.
4 Do you use charity shops, car boot sales or jumble sales?
Yes. 💜
We are actually neighbours with an animal sanctuary, and they sell things to help raise money for the animals. Whenever we can, we buy things from them and support what they’re doing.
My oldest daughter sometimes helps there too, looking after the animals.
And occasionally we get something in return that you can’t get much fresher — eggs, tomatoes and other goodies.
Gratitude
This week I’m grateful for community, animals, and the people who quietly give their time to help them.
Living next to the animal sanctuary means we get to see some of that work firsthand, and I’m proud that my daughter sometimes gives her time to help care for the animals.
There are so many ways of helping. Sometimes it is volunteering. Sometimes it is donating. Sometimes it is simply buying something from a little charity sale knowing the money will help feed or care for an animal.
And sometimes kindness comes back to you in the form of fresh eggs and tomatoes.
