This week let’s write a poem where we incorporate the titles of six books pulled at random from my shelves. The titles are:
Carve the Runes
For Instance
Harping On
In the Palm of your Hand
Seeking the Hook
Teahouse of the Almighty

Monday Poetry Prompt: Book Titles
Carve the Runes
Carve the runes
into ancient stone,
not to predict tomorrow
but to remember
what yesterday tried
to teach us.
For Instance,
the raven does not question
why the wind changes direction.
It opens its wings
and follows.
We spend our lives
Harping On
about roads not taken,
doors that closed,
words we should have spoken
before silence
answered for us.
Yet perhaps destiny
has always rested
In the Palm of Your Hand—
not written
in unchangeable lines,
but waiting
for you
to choose.
We wander through years
Seeking the Hook,
the one great meaning
that will explain
why we loved,
why we lost,
why some souls
remain with us
long after
they have gone.
Perhaps there is no hook.
Perhaps somewhere beyond
what our eyes can see,
there stands a
Teahouse of the Almighty,
where all our questions
sit patiently
beside cups
that never grow cold.
And one day,
when our wandering
is finished,
we will take our seat,
look back
at every strange turn
of the journey,
and finally understand
what the runes
were trying
to tell us.
