Sunday Whirl – Wordle #771

It was early, far too early for sensible people, but the first stirring of morning had already pulled me from bed.
Outside, the waves rolled toward the shore, their white edges disappearing into a churning sea.
I followed the strand, coffee in hand, watching the sunrise spill its colors across the water.
For once, there was no hurry.
Only the steady flow of the tide and the distant buzz of a world beginning to wake.
Then I noticed them.
Three strays sitting together on the sand.
They were staring very intently at one particular spot beside a beach towel.
Naturally, I looked.
Cake.
An entire slice of chocolate cake sat abandoned on a paper plate.
I stared at the dogs.
They stared at me.
We all stared at the cake.
Then a particularly determined wave rushed farther up the beach than expected.
Everything happened suddenly.
I grabbed my coffee.
The dogs scattered.
The plate began sailing toward the Atlantic.
One brave little stray chased it straight into the foam.
“Leave the cake!” I shouted.
He disagreed.
A few seconds later, he emerged triumphantly from the waves, carrying what remained of breakfast in his mouth.
I couldn’t help laughing.
The sunrise might have painted the sky in magnificent colors, but apparently the universe had decided the real morning miracle was saving the cake.
And frankly?
I think the dog had his priorities exactly right.
