Celebrating Go Topless Day
Naked in the Rain — Infinity (2001)
Apparently, one week of Eurodance wasn’t enough. 😂🎧
Last Sunday I gave you Culture Beat and Mr. Vain, and to my surprise, it got a really good response.
So I’ve decided I’m not going to be shy about my love of Eurodance, techno and EDM anymore.
Sorry, everyone.
The volume is going back up. 🔊🤣
For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday, we’re looking for a song that mentions bare, birthday suit, buff, exposed, liberated, naked, naturist, nude or skin.
I’m going with:
Naked in the Rain by Infinity.
And no, despite the title, this post isn’t suddenly becoming X-rated.
A Little Norwegian Eurodance
Infinity are a Norwegian dance group featuring vocalist Birgitte Moe and rapper Kjell G. Henriksen.
They emerged during that wonderful period when Eurodance seemed to be everywhere, and their early music was described by the group themselves as “bubblegum pop” or simply “happy music.”
Naked in the Rain was written by Pål Jansen and Svein Finneide and released in 2001. It became the title track of Infinity’s second album.
Years later, in 2021, the song received a platinum record..
And more than twenty years after its release, people are still listening to it.
Dancing Naked in the Rain
Despite the playful title and upbeat dance production, there’s actually heartbreak underneath the beat.
The song is about betrayal, someone walking away, and being left wondering why.
But instead of simply drowning in the sadness, there’s that wonderful image of standing beneath the rain and letting it wash the pain away.
That’s something I’ve always loved about dance music.
A song can be about heartbreak and still make you want to dance.
Sometimes dancing is the release.
My love for this kind of music isn’t something I discovered recently.
I lived it.
Back in the 1990s, I was a DJ.
I recently found an old newspaper photograph from 1993 showing me with our sound technician. Looking at it brought back so many memories.
And possibly some traumatised loudspeakers. 🤣
I honestly don’t know how many speakers we managed to ruin.

Our sound-check track was Magic Affair’s In the Middle of the Night.
If those opening beats didn’t sound right, we weren’t finished.
My poor sound technician probably deserved danger money.
Music to me has never been about belonging to one genre.
It’s about what it makes me feel.
Different music belongs to different memories, different moods and different chapters of my life.
And Eurodance?
That belongs to a particularly loud chapter.
Apparently, thirty-something years later, I’m still not ready to turn it down.
So if Mr. Vain didn’t frighten you away last week, congratulations.
You’ve earned another Sunday on my dance floor. 🤣🎧
This week we’re dancing..
Naked in the Rain.

I'm dancing naked in the rain
Let the raindrops wash away your pain
I reach my head up to the sky
Please tell me why
Tell me why it's goodbye,
don't be shy
I won't cry,
I just dared to hear it from you
But you hide, close your eyes
Don't reply,
walk on by
I see the long waiting for you
So tell me why you can't be true
Why you lie the way you do
So tell me why you just can't
Tell me what is going on
I'm dancing naked in the rain
Let the raindrops wash away your pain
I'm dancing naked in the rain
You know it's true a flame
I'm dancing naked in the rain
Let the raindrops wash away your pain
I reach my head up to the sky
Please tell me why
Yeah I pray then you say
You betray,
walk away
When I really needed you the most
Don't know why 'bout the sky
Just goodbye in my eyes
I'm longing for clouds or rain
This is the sound check song we tested the speakers on.
The 1 min 27 sec intro can be a hard test for speakers 🤭
