When She Finally Sang
For years, she lived beneath the surface.
No one saw her.
No one heard her.
Above her, seasons came and went. Flowers bloomed and faded. Rain fell. Summers burned. The world continued as though she wasn’t there.
But beneath the earth, she was changing.
Growing.
Waiting.
Becoming.
Then one summer morning, something inside her whispered:
Now.
She climbed toward the light.
The world was brighter than she remembered. Almost painfully so. She found a white daisy and rested upon its petals, feeling the warmth of the sun against the wings she had never used before.
For a while, she simply sat there.
After spending so long in darkness, even freedom takes a moment to understand.
Then she heard the others.
Their songs filled the summer air.
Once, she might have remained silent.
She might have wondered whether her voice was beautiful enough, strong enough, worthy enough to join them.
But she had spent too many years underground to waste another moment hiding.
So she sang.
Not perfectly.
Not quietly.
But completely.
Her song travelled through the garden, beyond the daisies and into the trees.
And nobody asked where she had been.
Nobody asked why it had taken her so long.
The flowers simply listened.
Because perhaps there is no such thing as finding your voice too late.
Sometimes we need darkness before we understand the light.
Sometimes we need silence before we discover what we truly want to say.
And sometimes—
after years of waiting beneath the surface—
the bravest thing we can do
is finally sing.
