A Little More Warmth

The morning arrived far too quickly.

I opened one eye, sighed,
and pulled the blanket over my head.

From somewhere beside the bed,
the weather forecast announced wind, clouds,
and the possibility of rain.

Perfect.

Another reason not to move.

I had always believed mornings should begin slowly,
with coffee, quiet, and enough warmth
to convince the soul that returning to the world
was actually a good idea.

Instead, everyone seemed to be dashing around
as though life were a race.

I laid there listening,
my neck buried comfortably in the pillow,
wondering why we feel we must constantly hurry.

Perhaps we should give ourselves permission
to stop sometimes.

To rest.

To breathe.

To remember that we are human,
and being tired is not a failure.

Rest is part of living too.

So I stayed beneath the blankets
for five more minutes.

Okay…

maybe fifteen.

The world could wait. 💜
