What Remains

They thought the tree was dead.

Cut down, forgotten,
its great branches gone.

But the forest knew better.

Moss crept across the old wood.
Ivy curled around its roots.
Fungi appeared like tiny shelves,
building balconies for invisible guests.

Life had simply changed its address.

The stump no longer reached toward the sky,
yet beneath the soil
its roots still whispered
to neighbouring trees.

Beetles found shelter.
Mushrooms flourished.
New seedlings pushed through the earth.

The forest wastes nothing.

Even endings are taken apart
and quietly transformed
into beginnings.

Perhaps we are like that too.

We lose pieces of ourselves,
believing something has ended—

only to discover
life growing from the places
we thought were gone.

Wow! I am greatly moved, the way you begun extolling the strengths and virtues of the natural world, yet moved it seamlessly to human philosophy. Brilliant 💜💜💜
