keys drumming rare morning lazy humming odd whispers open chain urge ghosts
Wordle 769

It was a rare kind of morning, the sort that gave me permission to be lazy.
I sat with my coffee, humming quietly, while my fingers began drumming against the table.
Then came the odd sound.
Keys.
Not my keys.
Somewhere down the hallway, metal clinked against metal, followed by what sounded suspiciously like a chain being dragged across the floor.
I stopped humming.
“Very funny,” I called.
Nobody answered.
Then came the whispers.
Wonderful.
Apparently, even ghosts don’t understand that some of us require coffee before paranormal activity.
Against every sensible urge telling me to remain exactly where I was, I stood and walked toward the hallway.
The door at the end was slightly open.
I knew I had closed it.
Probably.
I pushed it wider.
Nothing.
No ghost.
No chain.
No mysterious keeper of supernatural keys.
I turned around.
Behind me, my coffee mug slid slowly across the kitchen table.
I stared at it.
The mug stopped.
“Well,” I sighed, walking back toward it, “if you’re going to haunt the place, at least make another coffee.”
Somewhere behind me, the keys jingled again.
I decided not to follow them.
There are limits to curiosity before breakfast 😂
