Maggie, this is the whole thing right here. The painted smile. The storms nobody sees. Because that’s what we do. We get good at painting it on. Making it look fine. Making it look okay.
Jill sees it. She knows what’s hiding behind the smile. And when you name it like that, in just seventeen syllables, suddenly you’re not so alone anymore.
Someone sees you. The real you. Not the painted version. The truth underneath.
