The Scenic Route

“You’re taking the long way,” they said.

I smiled.

The shortcut reached the destination sooner, but it missed the old oak that greeted every season, the wildflowers dancing in the breeze, and the birds arguing over whose song deserved the morning.

The winding path took a little longer, yet it offered time to breathe, to notice, to wonder.

Life has always presented two roads.

One promises speed.

The other promises stories.

I’ve hurried before, chasing clocks and expectations.

Now, I choose the path that lets my soul keep pace with my feet.

After all, when I look back, I doubt I’ll remember how quickly I arrived.

But I’ll remember the butterflies, the laughter, the shade beneath the tree…

and the beautiful detours that made the journey worth taking.
