For dVerse Poets Pub where Bjőrn is our host.

Today’s topic :

Meeting the Bar prompt at the dVerse Poets Pub.

We’re returning to one of Björn’s favourite poetic tools: negation, or via negativa.

Björn says that negations can be used to question the usual, and we should remember to combine our negation with a list using neither/nor, maybe in the end.

Björn gave us another tip is to work with opposites, maybe negating both. We could also take an old poem and negate something, and see what happens.

MTB – Just say no (again)

Infinity

Infinity is neither
the last goodbye nor the first hello.

It is neither a promise nor a memory.

Not the stars, yet not the darkness between them.

Neither a road nor the horizon it reaches for.

It cannot be held,
cannot be counted,
cannot be named.

It is what remains when time has forgotten how to measure love.

Infinity is neither above me nor beyond me.
It begins the moment I look up.

The song that inspired me was “Infinity” by One Direction.

You’ve nailed it, Maggie! I especially love this definition of infinity: ‘It is what remains when time has forgotten how to measure love’.

    A beautiful reflection on infinity.

“It is what remains when time has forgotten how to measure love.”

Coincidentally, I was recently talking about the documentary, “A Trip to Infinity.” It’s a fascinating film I saw on Netflix several years ago.
